Mayor Coleman seeks re-election for third term as Saint Paul mayor

SAINT PAUL –  Mayor Chris Coleman was joined today by community and neighborhood leaders as he announced his intention to run for a third term as mayor of Saint Paul.  Mayor Coleman, a lifelong Saint Paul resident, first ran for mayor in 2005 and was re-elected to the office in 2009.

Saint Paul has always been strongest when we have worked together,” said Mayor Coleman.  “And over these last seven years, we have never been strongerIt is an honor to have been elected to this office and I look forward to running for another term.”

The Mayor’s announcement was held at the historic Pioneer Endicott Buildings, a few steps from the Green Line.  These two buildings are currently undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation and will be home to hundreds of new market-rate housing units and commercial space.

"Having worked with Mayor Coleman throughout the course of my term on the school board, I can say with conviction that this is a mayor who 'gets it,'" said Saint Paul School Board Chair Jean O'Connell.  "As a father who sent both his kids to public school, Mayor Coleman understands that strong schools mean a strong community."

Pointing to the building as evidence of a revitalized downtown, Mayor Coleman said, “Over the last several years, we have forged new partnerships in economic development, regional cooperation, educational programming and sustainability.  Because of the people who call Saint Paul home, our community is a vibrant, safe and strong anchor for the region.”

"Mayor Coleman has had the backs of Saint Paul's working families," said Saint Paul Building and Construction Trades Executive Secretary Harry Melander.  "He understands that everyone does better when they have a safe, good-paying job and has made this a priority throughout both terms as mayor.  I enthusiastically support him for a third term."

Elected officials and organizations from across the city and state have lined up behind Mayor Coleman for his re-election including Governor Mark Dayton, U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken, U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, all seven members of the Saint Paul City Council, AFSCME Council 5, the Saint Paul Building and Construction Trades, the Saint Paul Federation of Teachers Local 28, and Saint Paul Regional Labor Federation AFL-CIO.

"Saint Paul is a city of vibrant and distinct neighborhoods.  Mayor Coleman is an effective leader and has a true love for this city.  I am thrilled to offer my endorsement for his third term,” said Ward 1 City Councilmember Melvin Carter.
