Help Us Get Out The Vote On Tuesday, November 3rd
Welcome!
We've come a long way in Saint Paul in under four years. I am honored to serve Saint Paul— the city I love and in which I have lived my entire life — and I am proud to seek reelection this year.
When I came to office, we found a city in dire straits. Twelve years of disinvestment and simply kicking the tough decisions down the road left us with a sagging economy, drifting neighborhoods, below-par public safety, and a huge structural budget deficit.
But since then, we have turned Saint Paul around — even in the most challenging economy in decades. We have harnessed all of our city’s resources to bring new jobs and lay the foundation for long-term prosperity, create ground-breaking educational opportunity for our children, make our residents safer in their homes and on the streets, revitalize our neighborhoods and bring fiscal stability to City Hall. Saint Paul has become a national leader in education, investing in neighborhoods, and reforming government, and I’m proud of all that we’ve accomplished.
And I’m just as proud of how we’ve accomplished it. We opened the doors of the Mayor’s Office back up to the people of Saint Paul. We changed the culture from one of finger-pointing to one of respect. Along the way, we kept our word to tell the truth and tackle our problems head-on. We’ve had to make some tough choices, but by bringing everyone to the table and listening to differing points of view, we changed the way Saint Paul does business.
I could not have accomplished all that we have without constant collaboration with the coalition of neighbors, labor unions, progressive organizations and elected officials that allowed me to take back City Hall as Saint Paul’s first DFL-endorsed mayor in 12 years. But winning in 2005 was just the beginning of our work together. This year we need to build a winning coalition that will keep us moving closer to turning our values into reality and making our city into Minnesota’s greatest engine of hope and opportunity.
As someone who literally grew up in the DFL Party, I am truly gratified by your support. I’m asking again for your support because the strength of our campaign — like the strength of Saint Paul — comes from people like you who want to work together to move Saint Paul forward. I ask you to stand with me today by using this website to contribute, volunteer, put up a lawn sign, receive updates from our campaign — and to commit your vote to keep Saint Paul moving forward.
