Investing Wisely in a City of Neighborhoods
Saint Paul’s strength lies its strong, historic neighborhoods. However, decades of disinvestment and a national foreclosure crisis have kept some of our neighborhoods from prospering. Mayor Coleman has taken steps to close that gap, by developing an innovative approach to attract new investment in our neighborhoods and build a strong middle class. Through investing wisely and leveraging public and private resources, Chris Coleman’s groundbreaking “Invest Saint Paul” initiative is addressing the most critical needs in our communities, from housing to healthcare. As a result, Invest Saint Paul has made Saint Paul a national model for neighborhood investment and foreclosure prevention. As a result, Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and Governing magazine have named Mayor Coleman one of America’s “Innovative Leaders.”
Education: A Brighter Future for Every Child
Creating an environment where children are able to succeed is key to continued safety and economic growth in Saint Paul — which is why closing the achievement gap and ensuring that every child in Saint Paul can succeed, no matter his or her background, is Mayor Coleman’s top priority. Mayor Coleman’s innovative education agenda has established Saint Paul — home to an urban public, private and charter-school system that is second to none, as well as to one of the largest networks of colleges and universities in one city in the country — as a national leader in education.
Creating New Jobs and Growing Our Economy
Building a city that works in a tough economy requires tenacity and vision — and Mayor Coleman has fought to keep Saint Paul’s economy strong and grow new jobs in the most difficult economy in America in decades. With nearly $1 billion in new development taking place in Saint Paul in the last three years and another $1 billion in the works, Saint Paul continues to grow and Chris Coleman continues to work aggressively to bring jobs, opportunity and prosperity to every corner of our city.
Investing in Public Safety
Because Chris Coleman knows that we all must feel safe in our homes and neighborhoods, public safety comes first in Saint Paul. Mayor Coleman has brought fire and police staffing to historically high levels and has improved upon the world-class service that our departments provide. As a result, in the last three years, violent crime has dropped 10% in Saint Paul.
