For mayor, Chris Coleman

Editorial, Pioneer Press

In his first term as mayor of St. Paul, Chris Coleman has established that he can work well with the City Council; will fight for big projects he considers important, such as Central Corridor light rail; can take heat from his own side; will persist at solving contentious issues (for example, the flood wall at Holman Field, Rock-Tenn's pursuit of a new fuel source and Trader Joe's quest to open a store in St. Paul).  -READ MORE

Reelect Coleman as St. Paul mayor

Editorial, Minneapolis Star Tribune

A lot of positive things have happened in Minnesota's capital city over the past four years. St. Paul hosted the 2008 Republican National Convention, continued the revitalization of downtown, made progress on the Central Corridor, opened a state-of-the-art branch library and renovated rec center, and increased the number of cops while reducing crime.  -READ MORE

Strong Coleman Primary Win a Victory for Moving Saint Paul Forward

Mayor handily dispatches three challengers Tuesday; DFL School Board candidates also top their fields

Saint Paul, MN (September 15, 2009) — Today, Mayor Chris Coleman cruised to a first-place finish in Saint Paul’s mayoral primary election, winning 68% of the vote in a four-candidate field. Saint Paul voters demonstrated their overwhelming approval of Mayor Coleman’s record of moving Saint Paul forward by creating good jobs and long-term prosperity, ensuring that all children have an equal chance to learn and succeed in and out of school, and keeping Saint Paulites safe at home and on the streets. With the general election only seven weeks away, Coleman — who is endorsed by a broad coalition that includes Saint Paul’s DFL Party, labor, teachers, firefighters, police and progressive organizations — showed today that he is in firm control of the race.

“I’m humbled by the show of strong support from neighbors all over the city and honored by the vote of confidence in all the work that we’ve done over the last four years,” said Mayor Coleman.  “When I first took office, I pledged to hold an open and honest conversation about the challenges that we faced, and together, we’ve succeeded in changing the way we do business in our city. I’m pleased that the voters of Saint Paul have taken this first, big step to continue moving Saint Paul forward.”

In addition, the four DFL-endorsed candidates running for Saint Paul Board of Education — incumbents Elona Street-Stewart, John Brodrick and Tom Goldstein, along with first-time candidate Vallay Moua Varro in the stand-alone special election — finished at the top of their primaries.

Mayor Coleman Endorsed by Saint Paul Police Federation

Endorsements reflect Coleman’s investment in Saint Paul values, inclusive leadership style

September 14, 2009 (Saint Paul) — Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman announced today that he has received the endorsement of the Saint Paul Police Federation. The Federation has joined dozens of other labor unions, elected officials, and community organizations in supporting the Mayor's campaign for reelection.

Mayor Coleman said, “I am honored to have the support of the men and women of the Saint Paul Police Department. They put their lives on the line every day for our residents, and we have worked over the last four years to make sure they have the tools they need to be successful, and more importantly, safe. As Saint Paul continues to move forward, I’m looking forward to a productive partnership with the Federation as we work together to ensure that the Saint Paul Police Department remains strong, and our community remains safe.”

Saint Paul Police Federation President David Titus said, “Mayor Coleman has demonstrated his history of support for public safety by ensuring that even in these tough economic times, we have a full complement of officers on the street in Saint Paul.”

The Federation’s endorsement is made not by committee or the executive board, but by a two-thirds majority of members participating in the vote.
